If you’re in real estate, you understand the importance of getting things done right the first time! We as entrepreneurs have to manage our time and finances to the best of our abilities and avoid costly mistakes. Here are a few mistakes I wish I would have avoided over the years.
1 – Not Lead Generating
Leads are the lifeblood of our business. We need people to speak to in order to to cash checks and feed our family. Yes, it’s critical… if we are not lead generating, our family does not eat! Have you ever thought about it that way? I suggest you do because it’s true; it truly is that important! If we do not make that next video, dial that phone, or send out that mailer, our kids do not eat or go to college.
I’m not trying to scare you; it’s just important to call a spade a spade. If we do not focus on generating leads, then we won’t stay in business long.
2 – Not Managing Time
Time can be your BIGGEST enemy in real estate. As an entrepreneur, you are the designer, the marketer, the negotiator, the compliance officer, the EVERYTHING! Thus, it’s easy for us to lose track of time and find ourselves having accomplished nothing in an entire day because we do this, and then do that, and distract ourselves with this other thing, and on and on…
The quick we improve our time management skills, the more we accomplish and the more money we make.
3 – Not Following Up
How many times have we seen a family member, friend, or past lead posting a picture on social media with ANOTHER agent sharing how thankful they were to have bought a new home? Yeah… we ALL know that pain!!!
Well, here’s the thing, that could have been avoided had we followed up just once over the last couple of months. Consistently following up with our database is exactly how we make money…it’s not by running ads or posting on social media (that’s how we start conversations, NOT how we close the deals).
4 – Boiling The Ocean
We all (including myself) have that shiny object syndrome. We hear that YouTube is great for leads, then we spend an entire day watching YouTube on how to get leads on YouTube (say that 5 times…). Then what happens? We see an ad that says “Join my masterclass on getting leads through Instagram…starts in 12 minutes”. Then we click, watch a pointless masterclass that was NOT a masterclass at all and we waste another day on YouTube digging through Instagram information.
Here’s the thing, every lead generation strategy works. But it ONLY works if we are willing to be consistent with it! We oftentimes want to boil the ocean and we obviously know we can’t do that.
What do you think? Is there something that stood out to you? Anything else I should include in our list?
